All of the plants we sell are nursery propagated or come from tissue culture.
The Wildflower assortment is grown on the nursery's 617 acres. The majority are grown in a semi-natural environment all over the property. Forty years growing perennial wildflowers has taught this minimalist approach is the best way to produce them for retail sales. The methods employed are rhizome division, thinning, and protection from deer. The plants removed when thinning are replanted in another suitable area to reproduce.
Every year we have limited quantities of each variety available to sell. It is possible to produce the Wildflower assortment economically because we use minimalist growing methods, only harvest numbers that will not harm the following year's crops, and do not attempt to force the plants to grow in an engineered environment.
These plants are perennial wildflowers. The plants are assisted to basically self-propagate. This item is not produced by traditional methods because they are not cultivars and do not respond well to intensive cultivation. In addition, the plants are packaged and shipped negating the need for very expensive and labor intensive special handling and delivery.
